Day 6: Past Birthdays

Past Birthdays

You would think I would be the girl to always have a party or do something big for my birthday. Well in reality, I normally don't. I actually wanted to have a party for my birthday and I brought about the idea last year but my idea kind of got shut down so I decided that I didn't want one. So now, fifteen days away from my birthday, I still have no plans. I've always been pretty nonchalant about my big day. I am always excited for the age and grateful for another year of life but never really big on the celebration. It is odd. I am usually satisfied with the little things on my birthday! Like going out to eat and getting dressed up to do a little bit of nothing. This year is somewhat the same. Like I said in my last post I am excited about hitting the bars so I really wanted to do a nice lunch, movie, and go out but unfortunately my birthday is on a Wednesday and the bars that I want to go to are inconvenient to get to.

My best birthdays were probably eighteen and twenty! When I turned eighteen I was finishing up my senior year in high school and my cousin, one of my best friends and I all got dressed up and went out to a club in Philly! It was a great night. The guy that I was talking to at the time met us there, so we were coupled off too. I can remember just getting out on the dance floor and having an amazing time with them. My cousin PJ and I used to be dancing partners so we kind of served everyone that was around us. LOL.

My twentieth birthday was a great birthday as well. I spent the entire day with my mom and my boyfriend, which was definitely a first. I never had my significant other around for my birthday so that added a level of girly emotions that made the day that much better. The three of us went to the mall and did a bit of shopping. Mom was in a spending mood so I got a nice amount of clothes that day. We also went into the Godiva chocolates store and had fresh chocolate strawberries and chocolates. They were amazing. I remember being so happy because no one was annoying me that day, the weather was perfect and it was just an all around wonderful day for me. I enjoyed my day so much.

I think my twentieth birthday was a prerequisite for my twentieth year as a whole! I truly had so much fun this past year. Between living in Europe twice, thriving academically, growing emotionally and spiritually and all of the life lessons that I've learned, I am absolutely positive that twenty has been the best year of my life thus far. My goal now, is to make sure that I have years that are even better. When I am older I don't want to spend the rest of my life reminiscing on twenty! I want to continue to have years that I can say were incredible. I  want to have a bunch of stories to tell my grandchildren and not just have a select few to continuously fall back on.

Since I am not having a huge party for twenty-one, I think I will definitely have to have one for the next coming birthdays. But for now, I think I will enjoy my small birthday celebrations and celebrate the greatness I am anticipating from the future.

What were your past birthdays like? What was the best year of your life? I'm curious!
