It's Not Because You're White

What Iggy Azalea doesn’t understand, is that music in the black community, in order to be accepted by the majority, is supposed to be 1) true (or seemingly true) to the individual speaking it 2) relatable (or seemingly relatable) to those who are listening and 3) lyrically, melodically and or somehow unique in some way shape or form that separates the individual from other musicians. All these assist in keeping the black community from attacking the musicians’ validity as an artist, as well. So tell me, what truths has she spoken? What relation does the black community have to her other than her boyfriend and inspiration for her new and improved figure? What separates her from the other white artists that have been on the scene? We liked Gwen Stephani because she wasn’t “trying” to be down. She was. Adele, though a different genre, doesn’t TRY to be soulful and captivate black audiences, she simple does that by being herself. Sam Smith has penetrated by being the vocally incredible individual that he is. Fergi, though I am not a fan of her myself, talks about topics that are true to herself and she does not mimic what she hears others saying. Eminem, though some will argue that his success if only based off of the fact that he is white, has credentials and statistics that indicate anything that needs to be said about him. Numbers do not lie. Rappers like Mac Miller and Macklemore have all been able to gain respect and admiration throughout the black community as well. I list all of these whites who have been able to dominate and be successful throughout recent history to point out this: Iggy, we don’t dislike you because you are white. We dislike you because you’re fake.

I mean, I know our generation has stooped to reality TV being one of our main sources of entertainment, so I suppose nobody thought we would notice…Wrong.
