Nanny Chronicles #1

I recently started a new job being a NANNY! I've been a babysitter since I was young and because I have so many younger cousins and siblings, knowing how to watch and care for kids has been something I've been accustomed to for quite some time. I never thought that it would become my summer hustle. But surprisingly it has worked out very well for me and I am looking forward to the rest of the summer. Of course with work comes bills. I have so much I need to save for that it seems like my checks are all going to be spent before I am even able to hold the money in my hands but it feels so good to know that everything I am spending is from earning it. Regardless of what I have to pay for, it's good to know I won't spend my summer being broke.

I do more than just sit around and hang out with the kids. I have to take them places they need to be, make sure they are getting out of the house regularly and make sure they are fed and taking their medicine (if necessary). Sometimes babysitting only requires being there. When I was in middle school I had an overnight babysitting gig that only required me to be at the house IF the woman got called in (she was an on-call nurse). She only got called in three times, EVER! AND I still got paid. This job isn't as simple as that. I do light cleaning as well. I make sure all the kitchen areas are wiped down after we eat and make sure to wash all dishes that we may use. Did I mention I do meal preparation as well? Sometimes I cook, sometimes I just heat something up. I take the kids out throughout the week whether it is fun or educational. The other day I took the kids to six flags and that was A LOT, to say the least. It's pretty fun sometimes, if you ask me. These kids keep me youthful!

One thing working with kids has taught me is to stay on my toes. Kids can be manipulative if you let them. I like to stay on top of what they are doing and what they are trying to get me to do so that they don't get in trouble or get ME in trouble with their parents. I think that's an important life lesson as well. You never know what others are trying to get you to do whether it's to hurt you or for their own personal gain. You have to make decisions for yourself and be firm in them. People are like kids, they will try to make you do what they want you to do if you allow them to. And if you don't stay on your toes, they will succeed.

Maybe my life lessons learned from being a nanny will always be this interest? We'll see.
